Why do I see a lot of fire trucks and ambulances with chains hanging at the bottom and dragging the roads?

That’s to equalize the static charge that can build up on the vehicle. The static isn’t dangerous to people, but it could fry sensitive lifesaving equipment aboard the vehicle under the wrong conditions.

What is the effectiveness of fire safety design features?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under fire safety | 2 Comments »

It depends on the feature. The simplest are usually the best and the more complex the worst.

Not knowing which ones you are asking about it is difficult to be more specific.

I know this sounds stupid but why do fire fighters?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under fire apparatus | 3 Comments »

I know this sounds stupid by why do fire fighters wear breathing apparatus and protective clothing when entering a burning building? like what are some hardcore reasons as to why besides the fact that they dont want to get burned lol.

I never got that lol.

I’m baffled by your request for "hardcore" reasons for wearing PROTECTIVE GEAR when firefighters enter burning buildings.

I’m guessing there may be a lot of things that you "never got" lol.

Would you run back into your home to rescue your cat EVEN IF fire conditions looked out of control ?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under fire rescue | 14 Comments »

i hope it never happens to me or anybody else, but would you go back in even though you got safely out before??

Oh yeah - but my cat would be the first out of the door. Let’s say he wasn’t due to being scared or trapped -

I would risk my life for his. No doubt about it. Lay low, wet cloth over face, and call out for Mojo!

Our volunteer fire department needs a fire truck donated.?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under volunteer fire | 2 Comments »

Does anyone know of another fire department or anyone who would be willing to donate a fire truck or building supplies for our building that is falling down.

For the truck, you might try your state legislastors like the gfolks in this story did: http://www.missourinet.com/gestalt/go.cfm?objectid=38488733-15D1-4DE9-A333EB7C36FBC297

You might also post your message here: http://forums.firehouse.com/showthread.php?t=47742

Or you could solicit donations like this:

Good luck,

I survived the malibu fire. Are there any good fire retardants?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under fire | 5 Comments »

I am going to check with the local fire department. I want a thermal-gel I can hook up to a hose. I know that the fires will continue to come here!

TC is spot on! Our aggressive saving of natural forests has created a problem. For the last 50 years we have aggressively put out ALL fires as soon as possible. Smokey has informed you the you can prevent forest fires.

Well, we now have huge areas of woodland, with no cleared areas interspersed. This means when a fire does start during dry and windy conditions, the fires are enormous.

Had we let some of the previous fires burn a bit, there would be areas that would stop subsequent fires because there is no fuel.

I do know the DNR is realizing they made a mistake no letting nature take it’s course.

How hard is the physical test to become a fireman?

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2009 and filed under fireman | 3 Comments »

I am getting ready to take the written test and when i pass it I have to take the physical test and am wondering how hard it is.

My suggestion is you train until you feel like King Kong on cocaine.

A friend who fights forest fires tells me that when the day comes that he gets out of bed and doesn’t feel 10 feet tall and bullet proof, that will be the first day of his retirement. No sense getting killed fighting a fire if you only feel 9′ 4" and bullet resistant.

Good luck on your test. And thanks, you will be on the front like of first responders. Someday you may save my A$$ and I appreciate that already. BTW, be safe and don’t sell yourself cheaply.

What happens if a fire breaks out and all the fire trucks and firemen are in the memorial day parade?
