Are New Immigrants Assimilating

While he accepts on some level the idea of America as being a melting pot, Huntington points out that for America to succeed as a nation, it would be vitally important that its newest inhabitants adopt the language and culture of their new home. For Huntington, this process of assimilation does not happen automatically and perhaps may not happen voluntarily. The ultimate concern that is expressed by Huntington is the fear that if left unchecked, the “open door” policy of this nation will be its downfall.
