I agree with all of the above,I did the same thing in th US ARMY I was a crash rescue specialist also trained for structural and wild fires ,basic and advanced vehicle rescues ,emergency medical tech, When I got out I applied to 5 municipal airports and 7 city fire departments and each time i had to take a civil service test. the military training did place me higher on the call up list but was no guaranty to being hired.
At the time I was trying to get hired I was the wrung sex and nationality
References :
It shouldn't be too hard because you already have the training and the certificates to show as proof of training. You may have to pick up on a few missing items such as hazmat training or gas training (CO gas) or possibly even some industrial fire techniques but you have enough to get you in the front door.
The only real problem is time. How long will it be until a job opens up? But the best you can do is start seeking as soon as you get out.
References :
you still have to apply and get accepted..you dont transfer into any job..you have top go through the process just like anyone else..your military experience will help you over someone who has not had CFR training but thats not a guarantee to get you any job....
References :
http://www.thefirst2fight.com/forums.php

You can't just transfer into a Fire Department. You would have to wait for the Fire Department to have an open position and go through the written test/physical test with all the other applicants. I think you would get preference points because of your military experience, however, it is not a guarantee that you would get hired.
