If you have upstairs rooms make sure that you have either a ladder to throw out of the window to climb down in case of a fire or you have a fire retardant blanket to wrap themselves in and get down some other way. Also, make sure that you have a written and drawn plan of escape (at least two different ways) from each room. A child should practice at least one every six months on how to get out of their bedroom, living room and any other room that is hard to get out of in case of an emergency. Make sure that you have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, utility room and any other room with electrical devices or appliances. These need to be checked once a year to make sure they are operational. The best thing to do is take a class together as a family or by yourself to prepare for fire safety. Also, if you have pets get a pet identification sticker and paste it on your front door or front windows so that in case something happens while you are away or unable to speak the Fire Fighters know to save your pets. Hope this helps.
