Back in the days ...
Back in the days when fire apparatus were horse drawn, they provided a valuable service. Since they are compatible with horses, they were used to run in front of the engines to help clear the way and guide the horses, and protect them from thieves at the fire house and scene of fires. There are reports of rescues they made of trapped firefighters and victims. Dalmatians are found in fire houses in England, Canada and the U.S. in honor of their heroism in the past.

I'm not trying to ...
I'm not trying to be a wiseguy or anything but can anyone tell me what the significance was of firefighters having a dalmation? What was it's purpose?

Thanks for posting ...
Thanks for posting this. It was nice to see the old rigs. Just before the end there was an ALF Aerochief 90. I drove one of those beasts for 15 years. That boom sticking out on front had quite an appetite for utility poles and street signs if you weren't careful. ;-)
