how to start a fire on a grill without leaving the grill on?

For my science project I need to do the topic "Which household object will put out a grill fire the fastest?" and I am wondering how to start a fire without leaving the grill on. I need to know how to start a fire that people have when they accidently start a fire on a grill. thanks!

Okay, get your hands on a non-gas grill, one that uses just charcoal. In other words, no propane tank hooked up to it.

Second, I think the fastest and safest way you’ll find of putting out a fire on the grill is to close or put on the cover.
