Feeling the Funk
The musicians, who participated in what I would call an intellectual and societal revolution, did so because of a tremendous sense of responsibility. “The funk was an integral part of the jazz musicians’ progression toward ‘black consciousness’ – the consciousness that came to define the Black Revolution.” (Vincent p. 44)
Feeling the Funk
The music produced at this time played a vital role in communicating the emotion, frustration and pain of the struggle that mere words could not. If we think about it, after a speaker speaks or a statement is made, who can recall what is said? Most people seldom recall what they saw or heard but many can easily recall how they felt.
